LET ME TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT A MAN WITH A VAN
Hello World. I am Craig Allan – the owner of Craigs Van, which is the start of an epic adventure! Having spent the last 24 years as the business owner of a food franchise, Pie City Stanger, its time for change. My function was running operations whilst my business partner (my beloved dad) ran the office and accounting admin. 24 years is a LONG time to be carting around pies in a town that gave way to decay not many years in. In October 2018 we decided to move on in life. My Dad took retirement due to ill health and we sold the business back to the Franchisor.
In thinking “what next” I thought about my passions and needs. I love to be outdoors, in the sunshine, working with my hands, being active. My amazing wife and I put our heads together and came up with the idea of a goods-moving service for businesses and homeowners and tenants. We considered how we could combine this with refurbishing and selling second-hand goods under a unique brand.
This saw the birth of Craigs Van.
My wife would tell you that I love to tidy up and organise. This is what led to a business where I can keep busy, help people tidy up and be organised. We also wanted to be an influence to others to lead a tidy life centered around Christ and our beautiful community.
We secured a Kia workhorse and a trailer, and gave an opportunity to our domestic gardener James to join our business. Jame’s wife gave birth to their first child in his second week of employment, so another great new beginning there!
We then secured some workshop space and we’re upskilling ourselves daily on furniture restoration, upholstery and carpentry. We’re so super excited by this – we’re feeling alive and useful and productive. God is good. Watch this space for the launch of this business soon.
Goals keep us motivated
Our goals with this business are to become a national operation in a few key towns. We currently operate out of Ballito and assist with commercial moves and commercial deliveries as well as house moves from Durban North up to Blythedale. We have recently purchased a piece of land in the beautiful little Western-Cape haven of Swellendam and aim to set up our business there as well in the not too distant future.
So, Ballito and our greater community…..here we are. We’re ready to serve you. We’re not here to rip you off, we’re here to make an honest, half-decent living for an honest days work and we so appreciate all your support!
